Amtran has announced plans for a fare increase.  The proposal is to increase the base fare five cents per year for the next five years.  The first proposed increase will take place July 1 going from $1.50 to $1.55 for a one-way adult fare.  Amtran’s last fare increase was four years ago.

According to General Manager Eric Wolf, “Pennsylvania’s Act 89 of 2013 requires transit providers to keep fares in line with inflation.  We have found that small increases over a multi-year period allow us to comply with this regulation without a significant negative impact on our customers.”

Two public hearings for customer comments are scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at 10:00 a.m. and Wednesday, May 18 at 8:00 a.m.  Both hearings will be held at the Trolleyworks Conference Room at 3316 Fifth Avenue in Altoona.  The conference room is located across from the Amtran garage near Mansion Park and can be accessed on both the #1 Crosstown and #4 Plank Road bus routes.  No official action will be taken until after the two public hearings.

Specifics on the fare increase are outlined here.  Customers can also comment from the Amtran website by clicking here.
